This project has no official affiliation with the National favorite poem project, but, as founder, I claim some inspiration from that project. I was particularly impressed with Robert Pinsky’s presentation in Chattanooga last year, and his suggestion that Chattanooga needs a favorite poem project. I started a Face book group simply titled “Favorite Poem” and invited a few friends to join. In just a few months, this group has grown to over 200 members who post poems and comments about poems.
We held out first event on Thursday, April 23 at the Public Library at 6:00 PM. Eight people attended and read their favorite poems. Several said that they had difficulty picking just one, and with the small number attending, we held a second round. We agreed to a few things that evening, as stated below.” – Ray Zimmerman, April 27, 2013
Conclusions Drawn at the First Meeting
The fourth Thursday is a good day for holding a regularevent.
We will meet monthly.
6:30 is a good time for us to meet.
We are undecided about the venue.
We affirm the pleasure of reading poetry.
Socializing at this event is important to some of us and this will be structured into the monthly event or following the monthly event.
